The Alta Mira ranch is a turnkey quail and deer hunting operation
located several miles West of the community of Ramirez in Southern Duval
County. There are two distinct types of habitat on the ranch including
approximately 1200 acres of reclaimed farmland that is currently under
contract in the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) and approximately 500
acres in native brush land. The last two seasons have produced an
average of 17 to 20 coveys a day.
The ranch has a good perimeter fence and many cross fences.
The abundance of groundwater and watering facilities is what sets this
ranch apart from other properties. The ranch is equipped with four
irrigation quality water wells (750-1000 gallons per minute) and seven
additional domestic wells equipped with windmills. Each well is
surrounded with mature trees, dirt ponds and watering troughs. These
locations are suited for unbelievable dove shooting action and as
habitat for quail and other wildlife. The irrigation wells service the
two-acre bass lake adjacent to the house and small-irrigated food plots
as well as literally hundreds of individually plumbed palm and live oak
trees.
The native brush pasture in the North West corner of the ranch is
individually high fenced with scientific deer breeder pens and includes a
herd of approximately 30 head of top quality breeder deer. This pasture
includes three windmills and two irrigated food plots. A small
creek traverses the northern end of this pasture, which is fed by water
piped from a water well. The CRP land makes up the balance of the
property. These pastures are currently in waist high native grasses and
scattered brush that make up some of the finest quail habitat in South
Texas, any and all of which can be irrigated.
The structural improvements consist of a main house with five bedrooms
and five baths, two-car garage, an equipped gym, a laundry/mud room, a
huge family room, and a kitchen with new stainless steel appliances.
There is a home with three bedrooms located in the center of the ranch
provided for a foreman.
There is a large metal barn and various outbuildings, all surrounded by
large, and mature irrigated palm and oak trees.
