The North Platte River Home and Acreage lies along the banks of world class blue ribbon fishing for over 1 mile between the deeded land and the strip of BLM land along the river. Large cottonwood trees tower over the rivers edge and river bottom creating a wildlife sanctuary and bedding areas. The property is surrounded by history and the Fort Steele historical site.Improvements:With over 4300 sq feet of living space the southwestern contemporary style home consist of 4 bedrooms and 5 1/2 baths, game room, custom kitchen, office, large open great room, mud room and attached 2 car garage. The large shop/ arena has horse stalls and plenty of room for animals, toys and has power and lights for night time riding. Location:Located approximately 20 miles east of Rawlins, Wyoming and under 90 miles from Laramie, Wyoming with good access just a few miles from I-80. Fort Steel Historical site borders the property just across the river.History:Fort Fred Steele was established on June 20, 1868, to guard the men who were building the Union Pacific Railroad across southern Wyoming against Indian attacks. Located on the west bank of the North Platte River, the site was selected by Colonel Richard Dodge, and named for Major General Frederick Steele, a civil war hero. In the beginning, the post was little more than a tent city, until some 300 troops were tasked with building the fort. In addition to the troops, more civilians were hired to assist with the construction. Remnants still remain why most of the buildings at Fort Steele were sold at auction and moved to other locations. The North Platte River Home and Acreage is exceptionally private with good year around access. I have personally fished the river on the deeded acreage and it is excellent fishing for all levels!
