Gila Hot Springs, NM 88061 - Grant County

Black Canyon ranch is a National Forest inholding jewel. The 40-acre inholding sits in the Gila National Forest, 3.3 million acres of forested hills, majestic mountains and range land. It is probably best known for its wilderness areas, in particular the Gila Wilderness - the first ever wilderness designated in the United States. The magnificent mountain scenery, cool summer temperatures and relatively warm winters permit a wide range of recreational opportunities during all seasons.

The centerpiece of the ranch is Taylor Creek, a year-round trout stream which flows through the Gila forest and becomes a tributary to the Gila River at the Gila Hot Springs confluence.

The secluded ranch is nestled in a canyon at the end of a 33 mile Forest road and is surrounded on all sides by National Forest.

Residential Improvement

The main residence is a restored cabin with 4 bedrooms, 2 full baths, a sitting room, large den, front porch and patio. The kitchen has been remodeled in 2019 with a large pantry, wood cook stove, a gas stove and dishwasher. There is also a washer dryer in the house. The home is heated with large heavy duty All Nighter wood stove while the bedrooms feature gas heat.

A one bed, one bath bunk house features a kitchenette and wood burning stove.

The home and property are solar powered, with state-of-the art panels, inverter, batteries and generator backup.

Ranch Improvements

The ranch is nicely improved with a barn, workshop, corrals and pens. Fences are in great shape as are wells pumps and all other mechanical systems. A strong well provides clean, pure domestic and livestock water.

Hunting

The ranch sits in the highly-coveted GMU 16B and receives one land owner, unit-wide elk tag. Mule deer are abundant in the unit and can be hunted using over-the-counter permits.

Location

The ranch sits in a rich, historical area. The surrounding forest and wilderness offer an almost endless amount of fly fishing, hunting, hiking and exploring opportunities. Native American history and historic ruins are plentiful in the area. Local attractions include the Gila Hot Springs, Gila Cliff Dwellings, Silver City and Lake Roberts.
