Flying Arrow Ranch

The Flying Arrow Ranch consists of 630.35 deeded acres situated along the banks of the Missouri River in central Montana, just east of Great Falls. The property is benefitted by a 735 +/- acre Bureau of Land Management lease allotment for 80 AUMs. The ranch was historically used for centuries by Native Americans as a hunting ground for bison and remains a hunters paradise to this day. The property has a large, flat plateau that runs into a cliff that falls onto the banks of the Missouri River. These cliffs were used as large Buffalo Jumps and are depicted in Lewis and Clarks Journals. Arrow Creek flows into the mighty Missouri River next to teepee rings that are still present on the ranch. The Missouri River was the lifeblood that connected the West to the rest of the world in the 1800s. A portion of the deeded acreage along the Missouri River is a part of the Upper Missouri River Breaks National Monument. The monument encompasses 377,000 acres of federal public land and private lands, and the remote pieces of private land are rare inclusions in this National Monument. This is one of only a few private parcels on the Missouri between Arrow Creek to Fort peck Reservoir along the Missouri breaks. The country defined as the breaks start in Fort Benton, MT and continue to the Fred Robinson Bridge along 149 miles of river.

The property has been improved with two airstrips: a 1,800 foot airstrip, and a 1,000 foot cross-strip, located on the plateau. The nearest towns are Geraldine and Winifred. Power and high-speed internet are available a short distance from the property. The property can also be accessed by jet boat from Judith Landing only eleven miles away.

The Flying Arrow Ranch is an outdoorsmans dream. The property supports healthy populations of mule deer, antelope, and the rapidly growing elk herd in Unit 426 only a few miles away. Bobcats, beavers, mountain lions and coyotes also thrive on the property. The potential to develop this property into a wildlife mecca is great. The property borders Unit 690 and the Bear Paw mountains on the north side of the Missouri River, which is one of Montanas premiere elk permit units. Special Draw Unit 426 is located on the east side of Arrow Creek and holds some of the best elk hunting in Central Montana with its recently expanding herd. The property itself lies in a general elk and deer unit and Arrow Creek and the Missouri River serve as the unit boundaries. This area has a strong reputation for trophy deer populations and several Boone & Crockett deer, elk and antelope have been harvested in Arrow Creek Drainage.

The property has a unique water right that allows the landowner to pump up to 1500 GPM out of the Missouri River to irrigate up to 115 acres from April-September. Historically, the flat plateau on the ranch was used to grow alfalfa. Please contact our office for a complete summary of the water rights associated with the ranch.

Not only is the hunting on the ranch phenomenal, but the fishing opportunities in the Missouri are plentiful. The variety of fish species in the Missouri include Sauger, Golden Eye, pike, catfish, small-mouth bass, walleye, sturgeon, and paddlefish. The property has a small island off the lower bench ground that is protected from the main river channel and has great fishing. There is a small hunters cabin located nearby.
