Located along the northern boundary of the 23,000 acre Elephant Mountain Wildlife Management Area, the 9222 acre Calamity Creek Ranch features volcanic mountain grasslands to the west Chalk Draw, Christmas Canyon and Del Norte Mountains to the east. Habitat types include desert scrub, desert grassland, riparian zones, Juniper-Pinon-Oak Woodlands to deciduous canyon woodlands. Wildlife in the area consists of elk, desert mule deer, pronghorn antelope, scaled quail and abundant white wing dove.
