The Lane Canyon Ranch

2800 +/- Acres

Cimarron County, Oklahoma

This scenic property is located in the Oklahoma Panhandle between the Cimarron River and the Colorado state line, just a few miles northeast of the Black Mesa State Park. With only a short deeded easement from County Road 13, the ranch is both private and easily assessible.

The ranch has two deep canyons transversing across its south and north sides, which merge together on the east side near the ranch entrance. Lane Canyon, the largest of the two, provides dramatic elevation changes of over 200' and spans across the whole south half of the ranch. One of the main roads will take you right through the heart of Lane Canyon. This drive is truely scenic and allows views of the mesas and rock formations as you climb on top of the plateaus.

Running across the northeast corner is Pat Canyon, which has steep rock walls. This canyon surrounds the ranch headquarters, providing beautiful year around views from the cabin. On the other side of the cabin, a seasonal creek wash lined with 50' tall cottonwood trees creates a colorful background and a natural attraction to wildlife.

The cabin was newly constructed in 2010 and every detail was taken into account. From its hidden location in the canyon to its two long porches and relaxing interior, this cabin is suitable for both the "wild" and the "tame". Three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a spacious kitchen, and a large living area provide ample room for family and guests. The living room has a stucco fireplace, creating a cozy atmosphere. Lots of windows, wood floors, and a CH/A system provide functionality, as well as comfort.

This area of the state is known for its abundant game, and the Lane Canyon Ranch is no exception. Mule deer, whitetails, and pronghorn antelope find the cover they need in the trees and brush, while the open pastures provide room to run! The property is loaded with Rio Grande turkey and blue quail, duck, and dove are present too. In addition to these species, the occasional elk, bighorn ram, black bear, or mountain lion can be seen making its way across the canyons and pastures.

The diverse vegetation on the ranch mirrors the variety of wildlife it supports. From native grasses, such as grama, bluestem, and buffalo, to thorny cholla and prickly pear cacti... juniper cedar, pinion pine, shinoak, cottonwood, and hackberry trees all add to an ever changing landscape, providing color year around, as well as ample nutrition for wildlife and livestock. The ranch can easily support a 50 cow/calf herd. The perimeter is fenced, and the pastures have good grass stands for grazing.

Water on the ranch comes from four water wells - two are windmill-powered, one is solar-powered, and the other is electric and supplies the cabin. The solar-powered well also acts as a secondary well for the cabin, if needed. There are a few scattered natural springs in the canyon bottoms and some old earth tanks along the draws, which need to be reworked.
